Our Goals
About Our Home
La Gran Familia is a children’s home, based in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, located in the high Sierra Mountains about 250 miles south of El Paso and 60 miles west of Chihuahua City. Cuauhtémoc is a difficult place to be a child. Many children in this town go hungry daily, sleep on dirt floors, have little opportunity for formal education, and begin work at a very young age to help provide extra funds for their families. God has called La Gran Familia to be a refuge of His love, and a safe place for a child to grow up, A child that would otherwise always be living a life on the edge. La Gran Familia provides hope and opportunities for children who are facing the direst of circumstances.
Our Objective
The objective of La Gran Familia is to rescue children, who have either been abandoned by or separated from their families due to violence, alcoholism, or extreme poverty. Many of these children are from the indigenous Tarahumara group, who live around the Copper Canyon. Limiting the home to 40 children to improve their quality of life, the home focuses on living conditions, improving their nutritional status, comprehensive healthcare including dental and psychological care, as well as supports them to improve their school performance, encouraging a vision of opportunity and hope for the future. La Gran Familia is more than just a home for children; we have fostered an environment that is more like a family than an institution. This family atmosphere is provided through house parents who offer a loving and Christian environment for restoring childhoods.
We have been helping children with their social, emotional, and educational needs; none of which would be possible without the help and support of all of our donor families. We are so grateful for your making this ministry possible.
